Denji is the main protagonist of this anime series. denji was a simple boy before he met with devil pochita. after the incident of zombie devil and contract with the pochita, which was the chainsaw devil, he become too strong. The power and strongness of darkness devil was like savagery, when he was make the first appearance. he killed many assasins and devil hunters in just one blow to each. Even Denji got no any chance against him, and all the other devil hunters and assasins like kusakabe (stone devil), Beam, Quanxi, Tamaoki, Long, Pingtsi, Power, Violence Fiend, Angel Devil and Aki Hayakawa totally surrendered against him. Only Makima is the character who confronts against the darkness devil toe to toe and bring back all the assassins and devil hunters to the real world, by using her control devil power with a strategy of controlling others body.

Makima is the strongest character of the chainsaw man. She was the main antagonist of the public safety saga arc. In the begining of the story it was revealed that Makima is a good person, who is working to kill the gun devil, who can be become the threat in the future for the world. but later it is revealed that she was a selfish woman, whose plan was to control the whole world by her control devil power and Denji. But She get exposed with her plans. Her Biggest mistake was to kill Power, that makes Denji against her. Later in the story she was killed by Denji in an ambushed attack.
Before that Makima was defeated denji many times, even denji have no any chance in hand to hand duel against her. She defeated the darkness devil and helped other assassins and devil hunters to save their lifes including Power, Denji and Aki Hayakawa. Makima also defeated the 20% of Gun Devil with the help of other contracted devils of Yutaro Kurose, Aki Hayakawa, Tendo, and Akane Sawatari and the Angel Devil and Spider Devil.
